Been coming here since I was a child (30 years) and the food is always to the same high standards. Came here yesterday for a Sunday roast with a party of 9. Despite us just turning up, the staff were quick to juggle about some reserved tables to make space for us! Portions are huge but we all nearly cleared our plates. Always a favourite to come for a family occasion. Thanks as always for a lovely meal!
We called in at opening time (4.30) on Saturday for a meal with friends! Wow, we weren't disappointed! Lovely warm welcome, staff explained how to order food and drinks. We ordered starters and a main course with coffee and some ice cream to finish. They even checked that we wanted our child meal to come out with the starters! Great start! Food was divine! Great portion sizes and truly delish! It won't be our last visit! Highly recommend!
This is amongst the strangest places I have been to for a Sunday lunch. It feels like it is a bit stuck in a time warp (bar the toilets that were v modern, clean and nice!). Service is low scoring, not because of the people, just the way it all works, it isnt set up to make it terribly easy for people (pay at food till, queue at bar etc...). Food was actually OK, HUGE volume, quality not so great (but not bad). Final thing... its location suggests it is more of a country pub, but no dogs allowed.
Not on my list, but if you like a lot of food it could be for you.
Been here before. Love the place. Good food, great service from the waitresses who couldn't have be more helpful and pleasant.
I was part of a party who went for Xmas meals.
Good quality food, plenty of it. Got the mixed grill, absolutely stuffed. Fair price too. Looking forward to going back
£34 for 2 carvery’s that I can’t even call ‘average’
Very minimal choice of *frozen* vegetables, the mashed potato was that unmashed we had to chew it, roast potatoes had evidently been reheated and the gravy was …
Huge portions (starters bhaji and yorkshire puddings, mains lasagne and lambs liver). Bhajis too big for the plate, making them difficult to eat, lambs liver served with chips, seemed strange combo but I suppose I could have asked for mash. Service very efficient, very little time between courses, but I suppose we could have asked for a break between starters and mains if it had been offered. 'Head' waitress if that is who she was; more mature than rest of waiting staff anyway, appeared to create an atmosphere of fear amongst younger staff which detracted from the (minimal) ambience of the place. Perfectly friendly to customers but place lacking in convivial atmosphere
Food was brilliant couldn't fault it the portions where very large
The service from the moment we walked in to order drinks was slow, only one barmaid on a Saturday night???
After eating, we sat waiting for 35 minutes for the table to be cleared. Table was only cleared after we had to go ask for them to be take away.
We were then offered desert menu, after this we sat waiting for over 20 minutes for someone to take our order. Only to be told we had to go to the bar to order which we were not told or we would have not waited so long for someone to take our order.
However we then served the dessert and told it was for free as we had complained about the service, we had absolutely not complained to get a free dessert, the waitress informed us that the manager had said to give it to us for free ( the waitress passed this message on with quite a attitude).. In my eyes, the manager should of come to the table to apologise for service instead of getting there young staff members to do this for them.
Overall we would give this place a second chance as food was beautiful, but this was a special 31yr anniversary meal for my parents, and I do admit it ruined it with the service. £200 - you would expect better
